Assistant General Manager

The Barbary Notting Hill

London•Up to £60,000/annum•Full time

We are looking for an exceptional Assistant General Manager to join The Barbary Notting Hill and play a central role in the next chapter of the restaurant.

We’re looking for an experienced and natural hospitality leader. Someone with personality, charisma and infectious energy, who thrives on the restaurant floor and understands that exceptional hospitality is about more than technically good service — it's about creating an atmosphere, connecting with guests and making every visit memorable.

Our ambition is high. We want someone who can work alongside the General Manager to elevate our service, inspire the front-of-house team and help make The Barbary Notting Hill one of London's most exciting dining experiences.

The Restaurant:

The Barbary Notting Hill brings the energy, flavour and fire of The Barbary to the heart of West London.

At the centre of the restaurant is our reimagined horseshoe kitchen counter, surrounded by a lively 75-cover dining room and dedicated cocktail bar. The menu is rooted in the cooking of North Africa through to Southern Europe, built around exceptional produce, live fire and bold, generous flavours.

As we continue to develop the restaurant, our focus is firmly on excellence — refining our service, strengthening our team and delivering an experience that feels exciting, effortless and unmistakably Barbary.

You'll be:

  • A natural host with exceptional personality. Warm, confident and charismatic, you'll know how to read a room, connect with guests and create an atmosphere that makes people want to return.
  • A commanding presence on the floor. You'll thrive in a busy restaurant, taking real ownership of service and leading from the front. You'll have the awareness, instinct and confidence to anticipate needs, make decisions and keep the restaurant running beautifully.
  • Obsessed with exceptional hospitality. You'll understand the difference between good service and genuinely memorable experiences. You'll notice the details, recognise opportunities to go above and beyond and ensure every guest receives warm, personal and attentive hospitality.
  • An inspiring and generous leader. You'll bring energy and positivity to the team, taking real responsibility for training, coaching and developing our junior front-of-house colleagues. You'll set high standards, lead by example and take pride in helping others grow.
  • Thriving in a high-energy restaurant. You'll love the buzz of a demanding service, bringing composure, personality and authority to the floor while maintaining an atmosphere that's exciting for guests and positive for the team.
  • A genuine number two. You'll work closely with the General Manager, sharing responsibility for the restaurant's standards, culture and performance. You'll be confident leading the entire front-of-house operation in their absence.
  • Commercially and operationally strong. You'll understand labour, cost control, financial performance and the systems required to run a successful restaurant, ensuring everything behind the scenes supports an outstanding guest experience.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience as an Assistant General Manager or strong Restaurant Manager in a high-quality, ambitious restaurant.
  • A proven ability to lead busy services and deliver exceptional hospitality.
  • A charismatic, engaging personality with genuine confidence and presence on the floor.
  • Strong coaching, training and people-development skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to maintain standards under pressure.
  • Good food and wine knowledge, alongside sound financial and operational understanding.
  • Genuine ambition to help take a restaurant from very good to exceptional.
  • This is an important appointment for The Barbary Notting Hill. We're looking for someone who wants to make their mark — not simply to manage service, but to shape it, inspire the team and create hospitality that guests remember.

Our benefits:

  • Balanced rota, with a variety of daytime and evening shifts.
  • Career development within an ambitious, award-winning restaurant group.
  • Up to £2,000 Employee Referral Scheme.
  • Paid development courses – WSET, Watershed and more.
  • Staff discount of up to 50% across Studio Paskin venues.
  • Cost-price wine and supplier discounts.
  • Enhanced parental leave package.
  • Partnership with Kelly's Cause and Hospitality Action's Employee Assistance Programme, providing counselling, remote GP/physio services, legal advice and more.
  • We believe taking care of our team isn't an extra perk – it's our responsibility. We provide free staff meals, proper breaks and Mental Health First Aid-trained managers.
